Laser Technician
Sal has been in the “eye business” since 1987. He has worked in retail glasses and contact lenses, as well as working in both Optometry and Ophthalmology offices. He became a Certified Ophthalmic Assitant (COA) in 1993. Sal entered the laser vision business in 1996, and gained a lot of experience when laser vision was still in its infancy in the US. He became one of only 12 system operator trainers in the entire US during 1998-2000. He has also lectured for Visx University, helping to educate practices new to laser vision surgery.
Sal has served as the Laser Technician at Pacific Laser Eye Center since the clinic opened its doors in 2001. He takes great pride in the entire process of guiding patients through their surgery, from the time they first arrive at the clinic through the consultation process and on to the surgery itself. During surgery, Sal becomes the lead, setting up the lasers and the surgery suite, and assisting the surgeons during surgery. He is an extremely experienced technician, having assisted with over 25,000 laser vision surgeries.
As an enthusiastic recipient of laser vision surgery, Sal knows first hand the joy of laser vision surgery. He says, “I got my first pair of glasses at age 7. Until I was 43, I felt handicapped by my poor vision. I could not even see the big “E” without my glasses. In 1996, I had laser vision surgery, and I know that it is the best thing I ever did for myself. I feel a great sense of freedom because I can function in the world without having to worry about glasses or contact lenses”.
